10 BLESSED COMPANIONS


Hazrat Abu Bakr:
·       Was born in 537A.D and was a friend of the Prophet .   

·       One of the 1st converts to Islam and belonged to the noble family of Banu Tamim. His name was Abdullah and his kuniya was Abu Bakr
·       Suffered persecution by the hands of Quraish – hair pulled out while defending the Prophet. hazrat Aisha helped him.
·       Freed many slaves such as Hazrat Bilal and used to help the poor and the needy. The Prophet(S.A.W) said, “The most compassionate member of my people towards my people is Abu Bakr.”
·       Believed without any reluctance the incident of Miraj.
·       His title was “As-Siddiq” (the one who testifies truth)
·       Married his daughter Hazrat Aisha to Prophet
·       Accompanied the Prophet on migration to Yasrib.
·       He was the one who made all the arrangements like horses food and his daughter also helped them.
·       Quran has mentioned this incident as “the second of the two”.
·       Prophet consoled him while the two were in the cave of Saur and he was scared…. “ Have no fear for Allah is with us”.
·       Paid for the plot of Masjid-e-Nabawi to two orphan boys.
Shared camel with Umar and Abdur-Rehman Bin Auf at Battle of Badr.
·       He formed defensive ring around Prophet at Battle of Uhad.
·       Gave a hefty financial contribution at the Tabuk expedition.
·       Participated in expeditions to Hunain, Khyber, Taif, Syria.
·       Appointed as Ameer-e-Hajj in 9AH.
·       Led prayers during Prophet’s illness.
·       While Prophet was dying, all doors of the mosque were closed except the 1 leading to his apartment.
·       Steadied the mourning community after Prophet’s death and was appointed 1st caliph.


Hazrat Umar:

he was one of the ten blessed companions.
·       He was a  learned man.

Reputation of the fiercest men of Makkah and became a sworn enemy of the Prophet(S.A.W) when he started preaching Islam
Prophet prayed for his conversion to Islam, he was on his way to kill the Prophet and Saad bin abi waqas told him that his sister Fatima had converted to islam, he imeditely went to her house and heard her reciting the verses of the holy quran, he then started beating his brother in law and his sister.he went to the Al Arkams house and accepted islam.
He married his daughter to the Prophet and the Prophet gave him the title of “Al-Faruq”
“Allah placed truth upon the tongue of Umar and his heart.”
 The Muslims could now practice their religion freely.
His conversion boosted the morale of Muslims. Abdullah ibn Masud reported, “We have been powerful since Umar embraced Islam.”
He protected the Prophet from attacks
Migrated to Medina and took farming as a profession

Formed a defensive around the Prophet at Uhad
Helped in the digging of trench at the Battle of Trench
Offered financial support at the Tabuk Expedition. Gave half of his property.
Objected to the terms of the treaty of Hudaybia
 Persuaded muslims to accept Prophet’s decision to retreat when they could not capture Taif
Took part in expeditions towards north organized in the last years of the Prophet

Hazrat Usman:

Amongst the early converts and belonged to the Umayyad house which was one of the branch of the Quraish
Accepted Islam on the invitation of Hazrat Abu Bakr
Suffered persecution at the hand of the Quraish and family members.
Married to Prophet’s daughter, Ruqqaya.
Migrated to Abyssinia due to the worse condition of Makkah.
When the Muslims migrated to Madinah, they had great difficulty in getting water. Hazrat Usman bought well of bir-Rumah from a Jew for twenty thousand dirham and dedicated it for the use of Muslims.
He participated in almost all battles except Badr. He did not take part in Badr because wife was sick.
After death of first wife, married another daughter of the Prophet Umme Kulthoom.
Called Zun nurain – possessor of two lights.
Messengers of Muslims at treaty of Hudaybia
Rode near the Prophet at Conquest of Makkah
Escorted Prophet’s wives at the farewell pilgrimage
Financially helped the Muslims at Tabuk expedition. He gave 900 camels, 100 horses and a 1000 gold dirhams.
Paid for the extension of Mosque of the Prophet.
●Hazrat Usman was a learned man and one of the scribes of Quran. He was very modest. The Prophet says, “The most genuinely modest is Usman.” He was also known as Ghani – generous.
●The Prophet said regarding Hazrat Uthman, “for every apostle of Allah there was a constant companion and my companion in paradise will be Uthman.”



Hazrat Ali:

●Was born thirty years after the birth of Prophet(S.A.W). He was the son of Abu Talib, Prophet’s uncle and belonged to Banu Hashim.
Prophet bought him to his place to relieve his uncle from financial burden as Abu Talib was very poor.
Early convert – accepted Islam at 10 years. He is known as the first child to accept Islam.
●he was also known as Abu Turab. And also Asadullah( lion of Allah).
● Hazrat
Slept in the place of  Prophet at the time of migration and joined the Prophet at Quba after returning the valuables of the Makkans.
● The Prophet said regarding him, “ I’m the city of knowledge and Ali is it’s  gate.”
Married to Prophet’s daughter – Fatima.
Shared camel with Prophet at Badr and while establishing brotherhood, the Prophet declared Hazrat Ali as his brother.
“The most learned in legal matters is Ali.”  
He was a master in astronomy.
Sent as scout to discover enemy’s movement at Badr.
Single combatant at Badr.
Carried Muslim banner at Badr.
Carried Muslim Banner at Uhad after original bearer was killed
Formed defensive ring at Uhad
Single combatant at Trench
Amongst the leaders at siege of Banu Qurayza.
Used door as a shield at Khyber Expedition
Defended Prophet at Hunain Expedition
Carried Muslim banner at Conquest of Makkah.
·       He did not go for Tabuk expedition because he was made governer of madina.
·       He was among the great jurists of Madinah. The Prophet said,

Scribe of the treaty of Hudaybia.
Read new teachings in Hajj in 9 AH.
Washed dead body of Prophet and lowered him down to his grave.
Was not present at the selection of 1st caliph but did not press hard his claim to caliphate
He was the 4th caliph.

Hazrat Talha:

Early convert and was the cousin of Hazrat Abu Bakr. He belonged to the tribe of Banu Taym.( ?)
Accepted Islam at the hands of Hazrat Abu Bakr and was only 18 years old at that time
Accompanied Hazrat Saudah, Hazrat Fatima and Hazart Umme Kulsoom during the migration to Medina
Prophet sent him to spy on the movement of Quraish army at the Battle of Badr
Hence he could not participate in the battle
Deflected a sword aimed at the Prophet with his own hands –got 70 wounds during Battle of Uhud
Fingers of that hand remained useless throughout his life
Known as living martyr. The Prophet said, “who so ever is pleased to see a martyr walking on the surface
Present at the treaty of Hudaybia
His bravery led to the victory at Battle of Hunain
Led a avery simple life
Donated  generously during the Expedition of Tabuk and was                          given the of Fayyaz which means generous. The Prophet regarding this       said, “Talha, the Good” and “Talha, the Generous”
Member of the Islamic council during 1st and 2nd caliphates
Amongst the 6 chosen by Hazrat Umar as his successor to  caliphate
Fought the battle of Camel against Hazrat Ali and died in 35 AH




·       Hazrat Zubair:

Cousin of the Prophet
Nephew of Hazrat Khadija
Early convert, he accepted Islam at the age of 15 and was one of the first 7 people to believe in the prophets message.
His uncle would wrap him in a mattress and set it on fire
He did not renounce his faith saying that he must die as a believer
Migrated to Abyssinia
Fought at the Battle of Badr and Uhad, Battle of trench, was a spy in battle of trench.
Amongst the leader of Muslim force on their entry to Makkah
Married to Abu Bakr’s daughter Asmah the sister of Hazrat Aisha.
Amongst the 6 chosen by Hazrat Umar as his successor to caliphate
fought the battle of Camel against Hazrat Ali and died in 35 AH
·       The Prophet said, “Talha and Zubair are my neighbours in Paradise”
·       The Prophet praised Hazrat Zubair  by saying , “There was a helper for every Prophet and my helper is Zubair”
·        


Hazrat Abu Ubaidah Bin Jarrah:

Early convert
Accepted Islam at the hands of Hazrat Abu Bakr
Suffered persecution
Migrated to Abyssinia
Killed his own fathers army at the Battle of Badr
Used his teeth to extract the metal links of the helmet straps from Prophet’s cheek at Uhad.
Was declared judge by the Prophet for a Najran delegation.
Leader of one of the squadrons of conquest of Makkah.
Known as Ameen-ul-Ummat
Led expeditions to Dhul-al-qassa and al-khabbat.
Went on expedition to Syria
Nominee for 1st caliphate
Conquered Damascus
Hazrat Muhammmad said, “every nation has an extremely trust worthy man,and the trustrworthy man of this nation is Abu Ubaidah bin jarrah’

Hazrat Saad bin Abi Waqas:

Maternal uncle of the Prophet
Early convert
Accepted Islam on the invitation of Hazrat Abu Bakr
First one to have shed blood for Islam
Participated at Badr
Prophet handed him arrows to shoot at Uhad. “ I am the first of arrows who shot with an arrow in the way of Allah”
He was known as the best archers of that time.
He took the pledge of Rizwan at hudaibiyah at the hand of the Prophet.
Took part in conquest of Makkah
Leader of Battle of Qadisiya during 2nd caliphate
Governor of Kufa during 3rd caliphate
Was offered the 4th caliphate but he refused
(?).
·       He was buried in madinah.

Hazrat Abdur Rehman Bin Auf:
Early convert, He was born during the Year of the Elephant and was the same age as the Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H).
Accepted Islam on Hazrat Abu Bakr’s invitation
·       He was the 13th person to accept islam
Suffered persecution at the hands of Quraish.
Kalab was his’ and Prophet’s common ancestor
He was amongst the first 15 people who migrated
Paired with Ansar Saad Bin Al-Rabi
Started selling cheese and butter to earn a living
Soon established as a wealthy merchant who sent out trading caravans
Shared his camel with Hazrat Abu Bakr and Hazrat Umar at the Battle of Badr
Got 21 wounds at Uhad
Gave shoulder to the Prophet on his son, Ibrahim’s death
Leader of raid at Dumat-al-Jandal
Prophet said a prayer behind him at a voyage.
“May Allah bless you and your family and property ; guide me to the market.”
Appointed Ameer-e-Hajj during Hazrat Abu Bakr’s caliphate
Died in 33AH during the reign of Hazrat Usman.




Hazrat Saeed Bin Zaid

His father had given up idol worship as he was on
Din-e- Ibrahim.
He was an early convert, 28 person to accept islam
His wife was Hazrat Umar’s sister- Fatimah
He could read or write.
Was sent to check the Makkan caravan at Badr
He was present during the treaty of Hudaibiyah and conquest of  Makkah.
Commander of army that conquered Syria in the 2nd caliphate
Conquered Damascus
Made governor of Damascus but resigned due to love for Jihad
Played an important role in muslim community after the death of Prophet.
Known for courage and bravery
Died in the year 51AH

Importance of 10 Blessed  Companions

1.    Narrated Abdur Rahman bin Awf:
that the Messenger of Allah said: "
Abu Bakr is in Paradise, 'Umar is in Paradise, 'Uthman is in Paradise, 'Ali is in Paradise, Talha is in Paradise, Az-Zubair is in Paradise, 'Abdur Rahman bin Awf is in Paradise, Sa'd bin Abi Waqas is in Paradise, Sa'id ibn Zayd is in Paradise, and Abu 'Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah is in Paradise."
2.    "Not equal among you are those who spent (freely) and fought before the Victory, (with those who did so later). Those are higher in rank than those who spent (freely) and fought afterwards. But to all has God promised a goodly (reward). And God is well acquainted with all that ye do" (Al-Hadid, 57/10).
