Scribes of the Divine Revelation
By: Muhammad Rafay

ü The scribes were the people who wrote the Quran.
ü Scribes of the divine revelation were the people who were instructed by the Prophet (SAW) to write down the Quran as Prophet (SAW) could not read and write.
ü Scribes could read and write.
ü There we about 40 scribes
ü These scribes wrote the Quran on the branches of trees, date palm leaves, stone tablets, bones of camels and goats, and on pieces of leather.
ü Quran says :
“But this is a glorious Quran, in a preserved tablet”
ü  The most important scribes were: Zayd Bin Thabit, Abdullah ibn Masud, Ubay Bin Kab, Muawiyah Bin Abu Sufyan and Khalid Bin Saeed.
ü The Prophet (SAW) used to recite the revelation to his followers aloud, who used to memorize and scribes used to write it down.
ü Scribes not only learned the verses but also used to taught it to others.
ü The Holy Quran says:
o  “(It is) the book held (Greatly) in honor. Exalted (in dignity) kept pure and holy (written) by the hands of scribes honorably and Pious and Just”
ü Every year Prophet (SAW) used to recite the Quran to his companions twice and the scribes used to recheck their wittings.
ü Prophet (SAW) used to instruct his scribes about the shape of the letters.
ü Scribes continued their work even after the death of Prophet (SAW).
ü During the reign of Abu Bakr (RA) Battle of Yamama was fought in which many Hafiz E Quran had been martyred.
ü Abu Bakr instructed Zayd bin Sabith to collect the Quran as he was present during the last recitation of the Quran by Prophet (SAW) to Angle Gabriel.
ü Zayd stated:
“By Allah, if Abu Bakr had ordered me to shift a mountain amongst a mountain from one place to another it would not have been heavier for me then this ordering me to Collect Quran”

ü He compiled Quran into a book form.
