​Zayd Bin Harith 

• He was kidnapped when he was young and sold as a slave 

• Sold as a slave to Hakim( nephew of Hazrat Khadijah) by Ukaz.

• He was gifted to Prophet by Hazrat Khadijah

• One of the first four early converts of islam.

• The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) adopted Hazrat Zayd, as his son. Hence, he came to be known as Hazrat ZaydBin Muhammad.

• He accompanied the Prophet(S.A.W) to Taif.

• Was married to Hazrat Umm-e-Aeman (The slave girl of the Prophet (S.A.W.)

• Had a son named Hazrat Usama bin Zayd.

• Married Zaynab bint Jahsh (cousine of the Prophet) but got divorced.

• He accompanied the Prophet (S.A.W) in all his battles namely, Battle of Badr , Uhad and Trench.

• He was also present when the Treaty of Hudaibiyahwas concluded.

His Merits

• The Prophet (PBUH) loved Zaid so dearly due to his loyalty, greatness, conscientiousness, honesty, and trust worthiness. All this and more, made Zaid Ibn Haarithah or Zaid the Beloved One, as the Companions used to call him, hold a distinguished place in the Prophet's heart (PBUH).

• `Aa'ishah (May Allah be pleased with her) said, "The Prophet (PBUH) never sent Zaid on an expedition but as a commander and if his life had not been so short, he would have made him his successor.

Their whispers reached the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, so he ascended the pulpit, thanked and praised Allah and then said, "Some people criticized Usaamah's army command; they criticized his father's command before him. His father deserved to be the commander as well as Usaamah. He is the most beloved to me next to his father, and I hope he is among the virtuous ones. I request you to treat him well."

• In the battle of Mutta, Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, appointed a first leader Zaid IbnHaritha and he said that Jaffar Ibn Abi Talib is to be leader if Zaid was killed and if Jaffar was killed then Abd-Allah ibn Rawaha would be leader. Many Muslims regarded this as a sign of the three leaders martyrdom.

• Usaamah son of Zaid had not yet reached the age of 20 when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered him to be head of an army which had among its soldiers Abu Bakr and `Umar. A growl spread around among a group of Muslims who were distressed by this matter and who found it too much for a youth such as Usaamah Ibn Zaid to command an army which included a large number of Muhaajiruun (emigrants from Mecca) and elderly Ansaar(early Muslims from Medinh).

When Zaid was leading Muslims in the battle of Mutta the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was narrating what was in the battle field to Muslims in Medinah he said that Zaid was killed then Jaffar then Abd-Allah, the Prophet was crying as he was saying that. Then he said that Khaled IbnEl-Walid took the flag and was victorious.

4th, 6th, 36th and 40th verses of the Surah Ahzab in Quran are about him.

Quran talks about his marriage to Hazrat Zainab and condemned the Arab culture of not marrying a slave. Verse 33 and 36 of Surah Ahzab.

Quran also condemns Hazrat Zayd being the adopted son of Prophet(S.A.W)
